Testing |
Even in severely affected areas, (not necessarily on granite) there are usually more houses below the action level than at or above it. However, the only way to determine if your house or workplace is below the action level is to carry out testing. You will need specific types of radiation detectors, or meters, though. If necessary we can also conduct testing of the water supply. |
Water |
Public water supplies are unlikely to contain significant amounts of radon. However, where ground waters have migrated though uranium or radium rich rocks some private supplies, notably from wells or boreholes, can contain high levels of dissolved radon. Radon release from water usage in these cases can contribute to room air concentrations and may also increase intestinal cancer risks though direct ingestion of the water. |

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas present in the air we all breath. |
In the United Kingdom the concentrations in outside air are not considered dangerous. |
However, in enclosed spaces such as homes and workplaces radon can build up to levels considered hazardous to health. |
The Cornwall Centre offers a comprehensive service including testing |
and mitigation for buildings, homes, workplaces and |
private water supplies |
Note: The main health concern is an increased lung cancer risk from breathing the gas released into the air. This is usually derived from the radioactive decay of uranium in the soil. Health: The Lung and Lung Cancer Waterborne Radon |
